Vote for Pirates For Sail’s Next Cover…

This piece of fun was sent to me by Black Dog Nate of the Pirates for Sail:

“Cover Comissions” is a monthly feature on the cover music blog Cover Me (http://www.covermesongs.com/) in which readers get to vote for which song the featured artist will cover. This month, in honor of Talk Like a Pirate Day, Pirates For Sail has taken over for a fully piratical installment! We’ve provided a list of ten fine nautical tunes, so vote for your favorite and we’ll record the winner. Voting ends at midnight on Friday, September 24. http://www.covermesongs.com/2010/09/cover-commissions-pirates-for-sail.html

So there it is – vote now to choose from such songs as Rock Lobster or A Pirate Looks at 40. I would have included Bad Romance on the list, but oh well.

Seriously? ‘Rock Lobster’ by the B-52’s is beating out ‘Mutineer’ be Warren Zevon AND ‘The Highwayman’ by The Highwaymen?! Ugh… This may go down as the saddest day EVER in the the history of piratedom. I’m not a fan of Jimmy Buffet or the Beatles but c’mon guys, Rock Lobster!? Hell, I’d rather hear Bilge belching his ABC’s over Rock Lobster.

    Thanks for posting, Bilge!

Jim, I promise that if it wins, we’ll record the best, most piratical version of “Rock Lobster” you’ve ever heard.

Well Bilge, yer wish just may come true, about that last one!
    Har!

NAte, please do not read this as an affront to you or your bandmates in any way, shape, or form. I think you guys are great, and it’s always good to hear you on Bilge’s show. I just really don’t care for the song. NOW, that being said, there are some songs that I’ve heard and said, “Eh. I really don’t care for this much.” I will then hear the band do the song live, or hear a good cover, and it makes me re-evaluate the song. IF Rock Lobster is the chosen song, I’m sure you will do an excellent job on it, perhaps even encouraging me to re-evaluate my take on the original.

No offense taken, Jim. I’m glad you enjoy our stuff, and I promise we’ll do our damnedest to record a cover of “Rock Lobster” that you’ll enjoy as well, if it comes to that.
