I have been in Nicaragua a couple times and chose to have an ounce of this F'dC 12 year next to their 18 year (getting ready to leave the airport now). I am not experienced with drinking rum per se, but I know what I like. My beginner palate enjoyed the 18 year more as it had more smoke, caramel, and was smooth accross each sip. This may be less than desireable for some, as the fire was minimal compared to the 12 year. The 12 was less sweet and more warm(notabley) accross tongue and palate. Seemed to lack some of the brown smoke and caramel than the 18 but this may be something to look for when you've had more time at it. There was a nice transition of warmth to light toffee (think that is an accurate descr.) that was not present with 18 year. I bought a bottle of each to take home.

Well.. You see, im a Honduran native and I find this rum to be smooth and reserved rum, the right amount of afterburn and the sweetness... I love this rum, even better than the 18 and 21 years bottles of Flor de caña brand.. but everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so ill have to say is hope u find a better rum and tell me about it ( please dont say Rum Zacapa 23 year.. i find it great and all but not better than flor de caña) and Cheers!! :P

To each their own but me Captain and I shared a glass for our Thanksgiving toast and we both found it to be very smooth and reserved. I do prefer a cork as opposed to the screw off top but it is a plesant rum that we've decided to keep in the hold for special occasions with our staples still being Myers for him and Black Seal for meself.
