When opening what I expect to be a premium rum, I'm always a bit dissappointed should I discover a screw-cap. It seems a base and classless finishing touch on a product in which I hope the manufacturers would take a great deal of pride. Of course, sometimes I'm pleasantly surprised by the rum, making me think my aversion to screwcaps is groundless and petty. But all too often, as in the case of Flor de Caņa Centenario, I find a rum that is lacking.

Flor de Caņa lacked any real distinction. It was rum, plain and simple - with an emphasis on plain. It lacked any real spark or life, wanting for anything to make it leap out of the glass or stand out in a crowd. This is unfortunate, because everything I'd heard about Flor de Caņa led me to expect something more distinguished. But as they say, the proof is in the pudding. And having finally gotten my hands on an actual bottle, the pudding just wasn't there.
