Captain Sabertooth (I am afraid)
The Ben Gunn Society brought this video to my attention and has been on my case for not yet posting it. And rightfully so – it’s disturbingly strange. His name is Captain Sabertooth – he’s a Norwegian children’s entertainer, pirate, and (I’m fairly certain) a former inmate at the Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane. I came across these performers on YouTube a few months ago myself. My favorite is “Sjørøverrock” (Sea Rover Rock). I liked it enough to post it on my MySpace page. I think the reason I find it so fascinating is because I don’t understand a word they are singing. I asked my husband to translate, but he was quick to point out that he speaks Swedish, not Norwegian.
Whatever.

Egads… if I were that little girl, I’d be hiding too. I’m not sure which I find more disturbing, the weird kabuki makeup or the backup dancers.
And I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pirate delight in twirling their gun quite that much… maybe he’s a Norwegian Samurai Cowboy in disguise… yeah… that makes about as much sense as the rest of that…
