Interesting…

I tried doing a little research on this. “Chase’s Calendar of Events” is actually a great reference tool for pinpointing national and quirky events. I checked back as far as 1967, but there is no indication of a “National Pirate Day”.

A Pyracy Pub visitor mentioned the remnants of the day were fading on the internet back in 2004. I looked in “Chase’s” up to 2003, and there was nothing mentioned.

What this tells me is that if this “National Pirate Day” ever existed, it wasn’t really that big to begin with. It may have just been around for a few years, or it was a fad started on the Internet that didn’t go anywhere.

In my opinion, Talk Like a Pirate Day is the official National Pirate Day. Then again, every day is a pirate day in my book…
