In case you require clarification, I love rum. Also, I love a good cocktail. Yet, strangely enough, aside from the occasional Mai Tai my mixed drinks of choice typically hail from the bourbon/whiskey camps – rum is rarely a piece of the equation.
Of course, that was before I learned of Kahuna Kevin’s “Why Is the Rum Gone? A collection of 40 tiki-licious rum cocktails.” That’s right – no less than 40 ORIGINAL rum drinks ranging from the sweet to the savory, and with such pirate-appropriate names as the Addled Wench, Blackbeard’s Depth Charge, Headhunter’s Punch, and yes, even the Scurvy Mouthbanger. Careful where you point your pirate flag…
Without knowing more details I can’t say whether this guy was actively engaging in piracy or not. But I’ll say this – in this day and age, citing the flying of a pirate flag as evidence of piratey intention is all out idiotic. Just sayin’.

Living the Pirate Lifestyle?
Hrmmm… fun story – at least up til it degrades into a series of bizarre one-liners – in the Daily Mail UK about a “wacky new craze” that’s “taking California by storm” in which otherwise normal folk are dressing up as pirates in their daily lives. The only problem is that I’m more than a little suspect – I know each of these blokes in the pictures, which leads me to believe this is less a craze than some sort of pirate disease spread through close-quarters contact. Plus, they all hail from LA area, so that’s gotta tell you something 😉

Bilgemunky Radio 180 – More Rum, Gloria!
Tonight we celebrate National Rum Day with, you guessed it, songs of rum. Also songs of villainy, adventure, and battle. But mostly songs of rum.

Happy National Rum Day! Prime those flasks :)
I don’t know where I first read it, and I certainly don’t know if it’s officially registered, by according to my calendar, August 16th (today) is NATIONAL RUM DAY! I recommend celebrating with filtered water and selfless acts of public service – but only for the first hour or so to build up some goodwill before going on an all day bender of Goslings, Sea Wynde, Appleton, Myers’, and all your other favs!
European Navies Seeking a Pirate Advisor
Looks like the European Navies are seeking someone with a little insight on what makes pirates tick. Which is silly, really – all they need to do is listen to “True Pirates” by The Ben Gunn Society and they’d know the answer: wenches and grog.
Arrr! “Pirate Cultural Adviser” wanted for Euro navies
However, if they still require a more thorough understanding of pirates – their penchant for parrots, love of stripey socks, willingness to heartily laugh at jokes ending in “arrr” puns again and again and freakin’ again, then I’m happy to sell them my services. European Navies, I await your call.
